As the winter fast approached us this weekend, I was able to take refuge with a new close friend of mine, Katelyn Steinwand. After her latest album “Eyes to See”, Katelyn has been playing several shows around the city, and changing the way people listen to music. Her heart felt lyrics, partnered with an endearing voice, certainly made an impact on my musical taste.

We met with our new friend Dan at Inglewood Antiques, where he told us about some local cowboy history, which complemented Katelyn’s song, “Searching”. There are a thousand more stories to be told in each item of the antique store, much like the forever growth of Katelyn’s music talent. I look forward to seeing her perform again soon.

Today is BUY NOTHING DAY! An international day of awareness about consumerism!

Actress and Hollywood starlet Elisha Cuthbert will be heading up the Safeway Grey Cup Festival Parade as its grand marshal this Saturday Nov. 28, and will also appear at other related events around Calgary.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Sixth Ave S.W. and Macleod Trail, head down to Second Street S.W., onto Ninth Ave S.W. and finish at Olympic Plaza.

The big event will feature over 1,800 people including marching bands, floats and live music, and horses.

The 2009 Grey Cup is the biggest sporting event in Calgary since the Flames 2004 Cup run. The 97th edition of the cup game is between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes. Game time is 4:30 PM, Sunday, November 29th at McMahon Stadium with Blue Rodeo being the halftime entertainment.

If you can’t make it out to the big game you can catch all the action on TSN.

As you may or may not know, Vancouver is Awesome is kind of like our parent. It’s where the whole …is Awesome thing got started and where it really is thriving. It’s thanks to their groundwork that we are able to have a site like Calgary is Awesome up and running.

V.I.A. was recently granted non-profit status from the Federal Government, and is currently in the midst of their first ever donor drive. They need all the help they can get to keep going strong, and their success definitely helps us out as well. Oh yeah, there are also tons of sweet prizes to be raffled off for those who donate, including the grand prize…

Sounds like incentive for a mid-winter trip to Vancouver if you win.

Riley Boland needs no introduction. He is the energetic, and kind hearted skateboarder we have seen around Calgary for several years. We took a small look into a day in the life of Riley, to get a sense of what its like to pursue your goal of becoming a pro skateboarder.
