The way our world tilts and whirls has been studied for centuries, to find that our world is not flat, and our planet is not the center of the universe. This sought after information not only proved many believers and unbelievers wrong or right, but it didn’t bring us any closer as to why our paths in life cross the way they do.
Meeting someone as energetic and motivated as Joal Kamps does not always happen for some people. This man with a guitar strapped to his body, and a smile that opens the door of laughter, is on a mission. A new EP with stories of travelling and nostalgia, have swept across many people’s ears, desks, personal mp3 players, car stereos, and bike trips around the world. His messages have slowly made this world much much smaller, in that in one point in time, both sides of our world may have this man’s voice ringing through our environments.
When meeting with Joal Kamps, a hand shake could never tell the whole persona of his character. The stories unraveled, and knee slaps soon followed, and it was not long until the session was over. It was then that the message of music was revealed, in that it has no boundaries like that of a central planet, or timelines like that of a flat world, it is the stories that the lyrics narrate that make our lifetimes eternal. It shows in that with a song no longer than that of a cup of coffee, or a trip on a merry go round, that time can easily stand still, something of which science can never prove.
Shot at the Dark is proud to present our friend, Joal Kamps.
Our close friends Alyssa Chomick and Liz Field, have been working hard, and have finally premiered the newest issue of WeLikeWeLove magazine. These two talented and welcoming women have created a publication that features amazingly written articles showcasing events, musical artists, visual artists, fashion, and literature.
Alyssa and Liz have such creative minds, but always have made sure to direct their thoughts with their hearts. This issue of WeLikeWeLove holds evidence that this independent project has nothing holding it back in reaching the stars.

This past saturday night, music lovers from around the city and beyond, gathered to celebrate CJSW’s twenty fifth year in independent radio programming. The University of Calgary, usually filled with tired and over worked students, was over come with the most fundamental bands in Calgary music, from the past, present, and future.
The night started young, and had no sign of slowing down with acts like Wagbeard and Matt Masters playing well into the night. It seemed that with the endless acts ranging from Chad VanGaalen’s closet door performance, Jordan Klassen’s youthful storytelling, and the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir floor stomping antics, that the festivities were going to last much longer than CJSW’s preceding twenty five years.
There was not one person in attendance that was not deeply affected by the celebration, coinciding with the cultural impact our friends at CJSW have had on us all as well!
CJSW, thank you for becoming the cornerstone to thousands of us in Calgary, for being our in depth look into independent music, and being true movers and shakers.

As you all know, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti last week, leaving the country in great turmoil and in desperate need of aid. Calgarians are rallying around the cause by donating and organizing fundraisers like the YYC4Haiti team. Formed by Camilla Di Giuseppe of CTV Calgary, Alex Ruiz of Calix Media and the Calgary Flames and former Calgary sports writer Angela MacIsaac, YYC4Haiti will be hosting a fundraiser at Flames Central on Thursday, January 28, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Door prizes and a silent auction will be held to raise funds for Haiti relief. All proceeds for the event will be forwarded to the Canadian Red Cross, which is leading Canadian efforts to provide urgently needed support to survivors in Haiti and to address the longer-term needs of affected communities.
