Calgarians are rallying together for another great cause! In support of our northern neighbours in Slave Lake, a fundraiser event will be held to help the victims of last month’s forest fires. YYC4SlaveLake will feature live local entertainment, a silent auction, a raffle and door prizes. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Response.

Got an awesome dog? EMAIL in their name, breed, favorite treats, other information you want to include and pictures to have your pal featured on CalgaryisAwesome!
Today’s dog featured on BLOG YOUR DOG is Laura’s BFF- Lucyfur! Here is what she has to say about her:
![]() |
NAME: Lucyfur BREED: She is a Keeshond (although I sometimes tell people she’s an Ewok-mix). FAVORITE SNACK: Her favourite treat is cheese (mild cheddar on the reg, fancier stuff if she’s really lucky), OTHER INFO: She loves to supervise during bunny time, when my roommate’s bunnies, guinea pigs, and degus are in the yard. |
Chow Down in Cowtown is an (almost!) weekly account of Calgary’s most awesome eats from Ceci n’est pas un food blog.
Galaxie Diner has been a Beltline favourite since it first opened in 1996, but surprisingly, I had never been! So when my perennial brunchmate Tiffany gave me a choice between there and Holy Grill, I happily chose the former.
CIA congratulates its own Smalltown Djs!!
CALGARY, AB - Las Vegas’s most talked about luxury designer hotel, The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, has chosen Calgary’s Smalltown DJs to perform at the Bond night club from June 23-26 as part of the hotel’s commitment to feature artists that inspire the next musical movement.
The Smalltown DJs duo of Pete Emes and Mike Grimes, recent recipients of Avenue Magazines Top 40 Under 40, will arrive in Las Vegas following a series of successes that reinforce their position as leading Canadian contributors to the North American dance music scene. On May 30th they were awarded West Coast DJs of the Year at the 2011 Stylus Awards and simultaneously a popular BBC Radio One music show aired an original Smalltown DJs track to enthusiastic global reviews!! This June marks the celebration of three candles on the cake for Market Collective. And what do candles bring to the cake? Light! And light is exactly what Market Collective has brought to our city. Looking back to three years ago, I can’t even remember what life was like without the quarterly gathering of artists and musicians in the space known as the Ant Hill Building. The anticipation of each MC has snowballed and the buzz has grown into something bright, full-of-energy, and highly-addictive. I know that for me, Market Collective is where I go to find a community of like-minded folks and to meet people that I would never otherwise have a chance to meet. It’s about the art. It’s about the music. It’s about the veggie burritos. It’s about the light and the community it has created. So here’s to all the hearts that have gone into making Market Collective what it is today. Raise your glasses as we toast MC! And hey, what could be more exciting than a Birthday themed photo booth!

This weekend I mixed some gardening, running, basketball finals, and of course, catching up on all things web. The web always takes up far more time than any of the other things I do over the weekend, and it keeps pulling me in like some sort of giant magnet of time-suck. When I say time-suck, I mean that in the nicest way possible, internet. Please, don’t be sore with me, oh powerful interweb overlords.
Anyhow, I’m a huge Google reader fan, so the easiest way for me to keep up on all my “news” feeds is through my reader account. More and more I’m noticing that the feeds/blogs I like to catch up with and frequent often, are all Calgary related in one form or another. I wanted to highlight them here, in case you want to get a little dose of inspiration from local folks doing their thing, and keeping me and their community inspired with their writing, posts, perspectives, knowledge, and photography:

FOOD/WINE
Pop & Pour
blog: http://popandpour.ca/
I’m not a wine expert, and I’m not in the industry. But I am very passionate about wine, and I’m trying to study and learn about it (and, of course, drink it) as much as possible. This blog is a way to help me document my learning on the fly and shed some light on the under appreciated Calgary wine scene.
