Cyclepalooza

June 14, 2011

Starting this Friday, there will be a week of bike events here in Calgary.

The online calender at cyclepalooza.ca allows anyone to host an event or browse though to see which ones they’d like to attend. Events range from ICE CREAM RIDES to BIKE PROMS, SCULPTURE TOURS to BICYCLE WATER FIGHTS and FULL MOON RIDES to NERD RACES, the list goes on.

The events will run from June 17 – June 26.

Squeeze in a ride or an event during your Sled Island shows.

Check the calender frequently, people are adding new events daily . Add yours, who’s hosting the Tour De (pizza) Slice?

Live June 15 @ the Marquee Room!!!

June 11, 2011

Comparing Carmen Townsend to other singer songwriters would be a fruitless task.  Hers is a unique path, and her voice is one that ebbs and flows, taunts and teases, rising and falling with acrobatic ease.  If she told you she was a musician, you might be quick to assume her time was spent strumming away in coffeehouses, but it’s been a solid fifteen years of Carmen earning her keep in rock bands all across Canada that begs to differ.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Townsend has been making music her whole life.  Using all the experience she gained playing in bands in big cities, Carmen returned to the ocean and her home in Cape Breton to nurture her own sound.  And now with the release of her long anticipated debut record Waitin’ and Seein’ the time has come for her to take centre stage. (Press Release)

Come on down CGY and see this amazing act live @ the Marquee Room this Wednesday, June 15!!

Calgary Cycling Strategy

June 11, 2011

Cycling to work in Calgary, at least for me, has always been pretty easy. Over the past 5 years I’ve been fortunate to live within a 7km radius of my workplace. I’ve moved twice, and have had to adapt my routes to ensure I’m still on time, but for the most part I’ve found this city’s drivers and cyclists are very accommodating to each other.  Navigating the city streets and designated pathways has been and continues to be, relatively painless. I’ve heard all the horror stories of course, which is probably why I’m so much slower than the vast majority of cycle commuters.

Yesterday, when the Calgary Cycling Strategy report was released to city council, I was intrigued by the number of individuals interested in the topic and spent a little time researching the plan and overall opinions. In particular, after reading some of the comments in Jason Markusoff’s Calgary Herald article on the topic of a Cycling Strategy, it became obvious the issue of spending taxpayers money to make our city safer for cyclists, is a controversial one. Chow Down in Cowtown – Tilted Grill

June 5, 2011

Chow Down in Cowtown is an (almost!) weekly account of Calgary’s most awesome eats from Ceci n’est pas un food blog.

Tilted Grill

A few weeks ago, I had the honour of being invited by the talented Chelsea Klukas to an event promoting her one of her most recent clients, Tilted Grill.

It was a smaller, more intimate event than the last tasting event I’d been to, and it was great catching up with fellow Calgary food bloggers Dan and Anh, as well as meeting the girls of Club Club! Most importantly, who can turn down free eats?
