stampede breakfast for 1800 = 2 bags of garbage?

Robin Pritchard, Community Natural Foods

1800 people, 2 bags of garbage. That was the estimate of the waste generated from the always amazing annual stampede breakfast hosted by Community Natural Foods last year. “Our goal this year is to have 2000 attendees and only one bag of garbage.” said Robin Pritchard, Health & Body Care Manager and Assistant Store Manager of the Chinook Market location.

Here’s their plan to achieve this on Saturday, July 14th and why this stampede breakfast is a cut above the rest.

Plates and utensils used will be commercial composted via Earth Distributors and PEL Recycling. Guests however, are welcome to bring their own plates and utensils. As an extra incentive, those that do will have a chance at winning various prizes. There’s even a station where your dishes will be washed and dried for you. No going home with a dirty, sticky mess!

All food served is ORGANIC. The food is also as local as possible, thanks to the generousity of local businesses such as Spolumbo’s. There will also be various dietary options such as gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and meatatarian.

Just like the store locations, this event is bullfrog powered. The band’s instruments and amps will be connected to solar panels via Skyfire Energy. With the great weather lately, there should be more than enough sun to keep them going.

Chinook Market Location

In the spirit of this event, I encourage all that plan on going to use alternative methods of transportation to get there. The store is conveniently located across Chinook station at 202, 61 Ave. SW. I can’t think of a better pit stop before hitting up the stampede grounds!

Line starts at 7 am and closes at 10 am for the flapjacks, with festivities continuing after that. So come early and come hungry.

Here’s a list of local non-profits that you’ll be able to check out during this awesome event:

The Mustard Seed
Green Calgary
The Calgary Humane Society
CPAWS
The Calgary Interfaith Food Bank
Vibrant Calgary
Women In Need Society
Celiac Association Calgary Chapter
Sunshine Foundation
Tour De Nuit Society
