SWAPPING IS THE NEW SHOPPING!

Necole Hines and a group of volunteers are currently asking Calgarians to clean out their closets and donate their unwanted clothing for a great cause.

They will be collecting donations of clothing, shoes, and accessories (for men, women & children) from the community from now until (and including) May 15th.

For every 1 item donated, 1 ticket will be given to use in “the swappers boutique”.

To make things easy, they are asking that people label their bags with their names, contact info and # of items inside. They will then record that info, so that they know how many tickets to give them.

Anything that has not been swapped out will be donated to The Salvation Army.

Market Collective, Be My Valentine

Normally, we sponsor an artist every MC, but this time around, we are sponsoring Market Collective Sweethearts to show our appreciation to the people that attend the event as well!

For the lucky lovers, we are treating you to a 4-course meal and wine pairing at the prestigious and wonderful Teatro Restaurant on Valentine’s Day! (a value of $400!)

To enter this for you and your special someone, please send us an email with the subject as “MC Sweethearts” to info@marketcollective.ca with a 4-6 line story or poem about the love (or like) of your life, and a pic of the two of you! You can be friends, dating, married…whatever!

Submissions must be in by January 31st for your chance to win, and the winner will be announced on February 1st!

REMINDER: Bring your ugliest Christmas sweaters for the photo booth that we have set up. NicoleIrene (http://wordsarecameras.com) will be ther to take you photo, and we have a printer so they can be instantly be made into “Classic Christmas Cards”.

Quickdraw Animation Society of Calgary is just beginning their 5th annual Animation Film Festival.

There are a ton of great events including a gala at Quickdraw on Saturday night with a DJ and Chad Vangaalen (Cost: 5.00), free workshops, and screenings at The Plaza Theater in Kensington.

It’s October, and we are happy to announce that our next artist sponsorship will be photography specific.

The winner will get 400.00 to spend on supplies and photo finishing at VISTEK, as well as 100.00 at KENSINGTON ART SUPPLY!
The winning photographer will also be given a gallery space at MARKET COLLECTIVE in the new year to show (and sell, if they choose) their photos!

MANDATE: Market Collective is an independent market, created to showcase the works of local artists, artisans, and musicians. Our mission is to strengthen and connect the existing art community in Calgary and to create a platform for emerging artists to sell and display their work, keeping 100% of their commission.

OPPORTUNITY: This June 2009, Market Collective is celebrating its one year anniversary and we are giving back to the artists we love so much by collaborating with some local Calgary organizations to give one special artist an opportunity of a lifetime! This opportunity is open to any emerging artist, located in Calgary, AB.

Market Collective is going to sponsor one artist by providing them with:
A gift certificate from Kensington Art Supply for $100.00
Studio space at Art Central from July 1st, 2009 until Sept. 1St, 2009.
An art exhibit at the Art Gallery of Calgary for the beginning of September 2009!

You will be able to buy some new art supplies from Kensington Art Supply, create in an amazing studio space in the Art Loop of Art Central for two full months, and for the beginning of September, display your work at one of the most prestigious galleries in Calgary!
