In a world where true love can be found on the internet, a man with a guitar and a kind word can still make someone’s life a whole lot different. From the days of old, to the hectic new ones, a confession of truth is what will always draw people closer together.

The Zolas are a renowned group from the west side of Canada, that have been together for years, due to the talent that so strongly powers and inspires each one of them. Their albums are critically acclaimed, but their stories are what hold their truth in the open.

Nicholas Trublet said, “To select well among old things, is almost equal to inventing new ones”. Something to reign true in all aspects of collecting, creating, and inspiration. Many plunder in the antique shops looking for stories of old, search through collections of records for that nostalgic song, or paintings from lifetime’s past to bring about new emotions.

This appreciation for what has already been said and done creates a familiarity with things that hold a certain character within them.

Samantha Savage holds a characteristic that brings you to surrender to the sounds of her music. Something seems so familiar as if you have sat and listened to her songs before. Whether its her soothing voice, or her fluid song writing, her music will live through time and grow to something of old inspiration.

They sure don’t make them like they used to, is commonly heard by those that have seen and heard it all. People who have opened and closed their own businesses, built their own homes, know the worth of an old pair of shoes, and the longevity a good story can tell.

Our friend Mike Edel traveled into Calgary a couple weeks ago on his tour from the West Coast, promoting his new cd “Hide From the Seasons”. Another artist hailing from Victoria. His energy and musical talent is something we will not forget. Something reminiscent of what the ocean holds. Something that I’m sure will become nostalgic to the days of our youth, when things came easier, and the days seemed longer.

This year’s Sled Island festival was packed! I mean some of the heaviest hitters in the game, including GZA, The Genius, of the notorious WU TANG CLAN. Here’s a look into his visit to the Legion, and what’s to come from our friend.

It has been well over a year since SHOT AT THE DARK started capturing music acts from Calgary and around the country. After thirty episodes of amazing acts, SHOT AT THE DARK is proud to present it’s second SONG WRITING COMPETITION. If you, or someone you know would like to enter, you are in the running for your own exclusive episode of SHOT AT THE DARK.
