Despite the fact that we’re Chinese, my siblings are total Japanophiles, and if they had their way, we would be going out for Japanese food every weekend. Fortunately for them, Misato is an excellent Japanese restaurant that’s right near our house and you can probably find us there at least every two weeks, if not every week.

Night Deposit Studios Inc.  is a hidden gem in Calgary.   The big four record labels (EMI, Universal, Warner, and Sony BMG) would claim that this facility is the only commercially satisfactory recording studio between Toronto and Vancouver. Born and raised Calgarian Endre Lukacsy comes from a commercial recording background  in Vancouver where he worked at little mountain sound as an engineer.  Endre the owner and operator of Night Deposit Studios has worked with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Jimmy Paige, Bob Rock, the late Bruce Fairbairn and many more.    Endre has had the pleasure of working with Elton John, Luke Doucette, Elle, Ian Tyson, The Moffats, and Belvedere.

Night Deposit Studios just celebrated their 11th anniversary of making records in Calgary.   There are many other great tracking facilities and smaller studios town, however it is a blessing to have such a high calibre facility to offer to our local talent.   The education, production, and tone that comes with doing a record at facility like Night Deposit is what sets a band apart from the rest of the basement or small time studios.  

Congrats on 11 years of making solid records NDS.

Smallman recording artist Carpenter will be in town next weekend rockin with Calgary’s own Madcowboys to play an all ages matinee show at The New Black Centre. The show is a part of the Red Rocks concert series put on by the Calgary Sun. Check the poster for more details.

Description: Calgary is Awesome!

A couple of Calgary’s awesome musicians, DJs, dancers, MCs, and visual artists are getting together to challenge the norms of an average bar experience in Calgary, setting out to challenge the way Calgary is perceived… and most of all challenging their sweat glands!

The crew over at Night Panda is the one facilitating the whole thing and they are looking for as many creatives that want a stage and want to collaborate!  This is the second Sweatbox to come, with a whole new group of talented folks, and there is already talks of a third!

Calgary really is a cool place!

Calgary’s annual LGBT film fest is back for its 11th showing in this fine town from May 28 to June 6 2009 at the Plaza Theatre and EMMEDIA Gallery .

Films that look promising include Half-Life, Sunday May 31 at 7pm, and Honey Moccasin, Wednesday June 3 at 9:30 pm. Read about them at the Fairytales website linked above.

Screenings $10 – Calgary Dollars accepted at par.

I gave this photo to my friend Shaun recently to hang in his daughter’s room. I didn’t go out with the intention of shooting this scene, but just happened upon it. There’s a lot of neat stuff in this city of you explore a bit and keep your eyes open. Anybody else got anything like this that they’ve come upon while out and about?
