Chron Goblin!! One of the best emerging CGY bands!

Formed in 2009 by four university chums, Chron Goblin broke into the Calgary music scene with the release of their self-titled EP in April of 2010.  A five song fuzz-laden groovy endeavour, the Chron Goblin EP demonstrated the guys’ eagerness to make a mark with their unique blend of crushing riffs, soaring melodic vocals, and head-banging rhythms.  While some might call them stoner rock, others hard rock, metal, or punk, Chron Goblin draws from all of these genres to create a contemporary rock n’ roll sound described as “musical adrenaline incarnate” by Christine Leonard (FFWD Weekly).

Comprised of Josh Sandulak (vocals), Devin “Darty” Purdy (guitar), Richard Hepp (bass), and Brett Whittingham (drums), these four create a powerful and undeniable force that has earned them a dedicated and ravenous following – check out their live video for “Freedom or Death” as evidence of their raucous fan-base. While their EP earned Chron Goblin attention in local press and online publications, it has only served as a taste for the potential that was revealed with the release of their first full-length album One Million From the Top in September of 2011.  Recorded over a span of ten days throughout June of the same year with Casey Lewis at Echo Base studios, One Million From the Top is a cosmic leap from their EP in terms of songwriting, musicianship, and production value as the band has demonstrated their drive, passion, and dedication to progress as a solidified unit.  Featuring the punk rock-driven riffs of “Make You Mine”, the dirty heavy metal groove of “Bring Your Idols”, the meandering, atmospheric, and climactic compositions of “Suicidal Sewer Bomber” and “Open Up My Eyes and See”, as well as the genre-defying “Come Undone”, One Million From the Top is sure to open up countless opportunities for Chron Goblin to gain further ground as a musical force to be reckoned with.  With plans to shoot a video this fall for one of the tunes off their new album, as well as to continue touring to add to their list of towns already conquered (including Brandon and Winnipeg MB, Canmore and Edmonton AB, Revelstoke and Kaslo BC), Chron Goblin is set to continue punishing eardrums and melting faces. Live June 15 @ the Marquee Room!!!

Comparing Carmen Townsend to other singer songwriters would be a fruitless task.  Hers is a unique path, and her voice is one that ebbs and flows, taunts and teases, rising and falling with acrobatic ease.  If she told you she was a musician, you might be quick to assume her time was spent strumming away in coffeehouses, but it’s been a solid fifteen years of Carmen earning her keep in rock bands all across Canada that begs to differ.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Townsend has been making music her whole life.  Using all the experience she gained playing in bands in big cities, Carmen returned to the ocean and her home in Cape Breton to nurture her own sound.  And now with the release of her long anticipated debut record Waitin’ and Seein’ the time has come for her to take centre stage. (Press Release)

Come on down CGY and see this amazing act live @ the Marquee Room this Wednesday, June 15!!

Classixx live at HIFI this long Weekend!

Not going camping this weekend? Good call, come out to see a rad show instead!  Live at HIFI on May 21 is the awesome LA based DJ Classixx!!  Want tickets? Email justin@calgaryisawesome.com with your name/number and how to pitch a tent properly.

Outside a basement apartment in Echo Park, Los Angeles, a line was beginning to spill over from the complex into the adjoining street. With countless bars, clubs and venues to choose from, hundreds of people regularly descended here for Hush Hush, the semi-regular party started by producer/DJs Michael David and Tyler Blake aka Classixx.  (Green Label Sound)

“We started throwing the party because no one else would book us,” says David. “Dance music was slowly starting to seep into Los Angeles culture. There was obviously this element missing in L.A. and maybe we could be a part of it.”  Three years later, Classixx has become one of the most respected duos in dance music; a group equally adept at creating ubiquitous remixes and scene-creating DJ sets as their own funk-drenched house productions. With the Green Label Sound release of “Into the Valley” (feat. Karl Dixon), a blissful, soul-dripping track recalling classic house and the best Larry Levan mixes, the group’s ascendancy seems all but assured.  (Green Label Sound)

Go to the following link http://greenlabelsound.com and get a free copy of “Into the Valley” from Classixx!
